I have pulled a couple of the front pulley's off, and there are some excellent posts in the archive on this subject.
I use the 8" bearing splitter, with a snap-on heavy duty puller. Works fine using a 1/2" impact wrench. I do heat the pulley shoulder up a bit with the acetylene speed wrench......just don't over do it. Also, you need to pop it "loose" before using the impact wrench. Torque down the puller, and rap the puller center bolt with a couple of moderate blows. Torque some more, then rap again. usually after the 2nd or 3rd iterations of this, the pulley will pop loose.
When it first pops "loose" it will make a sound that causes you to think you've been shot and you will have skid marks in your knickers. These old girls do NOT come off with common 3 jaw gear puller's. Don't even attempt it with one of those. Use a 2 jaw puller, minimally rated 7 tons or more. My puller is rated at 15 tons.
IMHO of course.
