I think the damaged part is part of the bearing. The parts diagram does not show anything else that I can see. To replace the bearing, the bull pinion bearing cage has to come out. That"s the flange and cage that holds the bull pinion bearings and shaft/gear. To get that out, you have to open the transmission (some say you can do it through the PTO opening) and take the bull gear off the axle and drop it down so it"s not in mesh with the pinion gear. When in mesh, the bull gear blocks the cage and it can"t come out. The pinion shaft and bearings come out to the inside. So you have to pull the housing, bearings and pinion shaft as a unit and then you can remove the shaft and bearings. All that said, if you think the bearing is not damaged (besides the retainer ring, I"d rotate things and see that all runs smoothly with no noise and put her back together. It"ll be a big job to replace the bearing.
