pistons 1 & 3 are pairs and go up and down in the motor together. so does 2 & 4. if you cross wire 2 and 4 and the engine runs, then you may have the wiring backwards on the distributor cap. remove the distributor cap, have someone turn the engine and observe the direction the rotor button turns. the rotor should follow the firing order around the distributor. of course # 1 cylinder is near the fan. real easy to wire the distributor backwards.
