Yea,you do not need the voltage regulator at all.The main hot lead going to it needs to be eliminated.
You do not need a very big alternator at all.Since you are using the Delco alternator,you really dont need anything bigger than a 55 amp.Even that is too much.I think a 37 amp was the smallest 10SI delco they made??? It isnt going to cause any issues.They do make them with a "low turn on" regulator.This kind will be more beneficial for low RPM tractors like we are using,seeing how they are all about 1500-2000 rpm max,on average.If you use a one wire alternator set up for a car(regular turn on regulator)you will have to "goose up" the throttle to get it to start charging. I am not sure how small you can get a single wire Delco in????
