There were a lot of early 460's with the 2 1/2 inch axle and as long as ya did not mount a corn picker on it they got along just fine . But mount a mounted two row and you were in for problems. don't know exactly when they started offering the heavy axle . The first 460 i had had the small axle and one one friend's 460 Use to be a small axle till we changed it back in the late sixty's due to axle breaking from the mounted picker. Don't hold me to this as it has been awhile but i am thinking that all we had to change was the axle and add the bigger wheels.
