It's not possible to install the parts backwards. The fingers were probably not adjusted, or the pedal free play afterwards, or the throwout bearing graphite has disintegrated. The rattling is the throwout bearing carrier (metal) hitting the pressure plate (metal). Serious damage will occur if you continue to do this. Look up into the inspection hole and have a look at the throwout bearing and the fingers. The graphite should protrude past the carrier 1/4" or so. All the fingers should be adjusted to the same level, 1 1/4" from the plate, and the pedal free play should be 1".
