Something bad wrong! I used to have a 140 with a Woods mower, mowing 4 acres a week. The belt usually lasted 3 or 4 years! And..I didn't treat it very good either. You need to check a manual and make sure you have the belt on correctly. Also, the belt must be really TIGHT! I used to use a hydralic jack to push the tension pulley down to get it good and tight. If the belt is not tight enough so the belt does not slip, it will wear out and break in short order.
