There is a phosphoric acid product called Picklex 20 which will protect the parts from rust if that is what concerns you, as long as they are inside. Comes in a squirt bottle, smooth it out with a brush and scuff off the white residue before priming. Expensive, but a quart will last for a long time. When time comes to paint use epoxy primer (2 part)-- best primer there is.
