Ludwig - Here's a couple quick tests: 1 - With motor running at 1/2 speed or faster, momentarily connect a jumper wire between the BAT and GEN terminals on the regulator. If the ammeter now shows charge, the cutout relay in the regulator is not working. Try removing the regulator cover and cleaning the cutout relay contacts (cutout is the relay wound with heavy copper wire). If the ammeter shows discharge with the jumper applied, problem is with the generator. 2 - Ground the FLD terminal on the regulator with the jumper wire. If the ammeter shows increased charge, the regulator relay contacts inside the regulator are not working. Try cleaning them same as described above. The above of course presumes all the wiring is OK. If you find the problem's in the generator, remove the commutator/brush cover band and check for stuck or worn-out brushes (there's 3 of 'em) - also for a dirty commutator. Good luck!
