I've been looking around for a good, 2wd diesel tractor for awhile to use for odd jobs, mowing in tight places, or otherwise when our larger tractor with cab is not convenient. I'm just a hobby guy with 45 acres and a wood lot.
Found an IH 454 with diesel engine advertised last night about an hour away and priced well below value. I went there first thing this morning and found the tractor to be sound but a little rough around the edges. Only 5500 hours on the tach (which means nothing really) but it started right up from cold (it was down to freezing here over night) and ran well. Power steering worked great. Rear tires are about 60% and filled. Only leak found was in the fiber diesel return line.
Missing one headlight, the battery cover is pretty beat up, and the seat and one front tire need to be replaced. However for $1200, I drove her away and she runs real good, brakes were excellent, shifts smooth, etc. I think that I got an awesome deal for this area. Another guy showed up as I was driving away and followed me until I pulled into a friend's yard and asked if I would sell it.
I need to pick up a manual and with a bit of work, a few parts, and eventually some paint, it should be a great little tractor.

I've already drilled the center of the bolt out with about 7/64" drill bit the entire length of the bolt. Only one end of the bolt is visible. I tried to use an easy out but it wasn't budging and I didn't want t
