With out knowing what # was on it, recommending a regulator, or diagnosing it is difficult. I recommend using a Hitachi alternator from a 1986 Nissan D21 pickup truck. They are internally regulated, and simple. Mount to align the belt. Hook the output post to the AMp Gauge with #10 wire. Hook the S terminal to the Output terminal with a short #14 wire. Hook the L terminal to a 10 ohm resistor, or a diode (3 amp 150 PIV from radio shack) with the marked end toward the Alternator, or a Side marker lamp (not LED). Connect the other lead from this device (of your choice) to the ignition circuit, leading to the coil (or ballast resistor leading to the coil). Solves many issues. Jim
