I kind of blew it and removed the distributor and hydraulic pump on my 400D without checking for timing. Read a bunch of posts and my manuals and learned that I can get it timed properly by putting the #1 piston at TDC with timing pointer on the crank pulley pointing to the mark. Now the problem:
The manual says the back of the cam gear is beveled to aid in proper insertion of the hydraulic pump gear -- need to line up the centerpunch on the hydraulic pump gear with the beveled gear. However, the cam gear is beveled on two consecutive teeth, but the hydraulic pump gear is centerpunched between two teeth. Which of the two beveled cam gears am I to place the centerpunched slot?
I noticed the crankshaft pulley is marked with an "M", then a line, then a "DC", then a line. Has that got anything to do with it, and what does the "M" mean?
