I just did the timing on my Super-A. I believe someone in the past had the distributor off and put it back on in a different place because #1 wasnt anywhere near where the book said it was. Find TDC for #1 piston using timing mark. Remove distributor cap and find where the rotor is pointing. This will be #1 plug and start of firing order. Retard timing by rotate distributor in direction of rotor travel just a little so that points are closed. Now with the coil hot wire near ground, turn distributor the other way (advance) until points just open and you get a spark. Lock down the distributor and install plug wires in proper firing order. This will get you within a few degrees of spec and enough that you engine will run.
