Originally the system used a 6 volt positive ground system. As I understand it, you can change this by swapping the cables on the ammeter and a few by the generator and regulator. Electrical is not my thing. I have to sit with a diagram to figure it out. I would pull the top on the regulator off and make sure that the switch is working inside. Without tracing the wiring, it is hard to know if the system has been converted or not. I would think though, that if you had the tractor off and then pulled the switch on(motor off) that the ammeter should show a discharge, if the battery polarity was reversed then it would show a charge. Someone correct me if I am wrong. If the regulator checks out, it may be a good idea to repolarize the regulator since you disconnected the battery. Hopefully this helps out. I am not an expert on electrical but no one else has helped so I thought I would give it a shot. Hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong. Please let us know what you find so we know if we give out good advice or not. GOOD LUCK!
