No actually they get looser then a goose over time due to wear on the cam and lifters and wear on the end of the rockers wear on the shaft and bushing in the rocker arms. Myself i would do a major tune up with the valve set run a comp. test check and see if the intake and exhaust manifold has come loose check the dist. to see if ya have wore out flyweights and also the amount of sloop in the shaft on the dist. install the correct plugs as far as heat range new wires and a GOOD cap and rotor if ya can find one of them today. Set the ing. timing as per spce.'s and RUN the correct gas for the tractor . Makes all the difference in the world.
