My changed to 12V 240U would take several spins to start for the first couple of years I had it... changed points, plugs and condensor and didn't help. A while back my starter went bad and the guy that rebuilt it put 12V windings in the starter and now it starts so fast I can't believe it... if yours has been changed to 12V without changing the starter to 12V, maybe that's your problem.
