Hey IH Guys,
I'm a little corn-fused here. I'm rebuilding an IH 504 gas Utility and once I got it running and tried all the gears---- I found reverse and only 3 forward gears. The manual I have says that the 504 with a T/A should have 10 forward gears, and without the T/A they should all have 5 forward speeds. I can move the shifter lever to the right side where 4th and 5th should be---but from there, the lever will not move to the front or rearward to find the 4th and 5th gears respectively. I'm wondering if the manual could be incorrect, or it it possible that the utility model actually had only 3 forward speeds? I should also ask---is there something that could be wrong inside the tranny that could be my problem? I'm new at this old tractor rebuilding, but really enjoy it. Thanks to all the folks out there for your help. jr
