It sounds to me like you are talking about the live PTO hand lever on the later model Farmalls. I don't think you could adapt one from a 300 to an H, but if you did you would still not have live PTO. The clutch on the H kills the PTO.

The M&W add-on to the left brake housing gives the H a live PTO but you stil have to engage it with the pull ring.

Fix the detent problem and you will find it is a satisfactory arrangement.

If by mowing, you mean a rotary brush mower, then you need an overrunning clutch for safety. And your PTO shaft has the notch the other guy was talking about.
