If a 47 H came with the long pipe, on my dad's there were two possibilties: It was replaced with an older one that the local dealer had, or it was cut off to get into the tractor shed. I don't remember it having a short barrel and I think it had the sound the later one had, before it fell apart. My dad lost the part of our farm that the shed was on in 1950, built another one that the new long pipe muffler cleared by about 1/2 inch. I barely remember yesterday, much less 1947. But I doubt if a new 47 H bought in Jan 1948 wore out 2 mufflers before I started driving it in 1950. So, maybe you are right. We also had a 1939-1941? H, that I drove very little -- it went with the bankrupcy.
