If I'm boring everyone, sorry. But I have to tell someone -- my cats just look at me. The following is the result of a lot of your suggestions, and a lot of studying.
Got the engine out. That last 2 inches had me nervous:
But, it just pulled right off without any complaint. Notice my homemade lift plates.
Got the flywheel off:
The tire suggestion and removing the pan and oil pump were followed to a tee. Don't pay any attention to the screwdrivers stuffed near the hoist hook. Had to put them someplace.
My next step is to take off the TA section and change all the seals except those internal to the TA (fairly new unit).
Took the block to the "block guy" to have him clean it, check for cracks, pull the sleeves, turn the crank, see if I can find some bearings or have them made, etc. Sure hope there are no cracks in the block. The previous owner NEVER changed the antifreeze.
And Jan----(sp), the valve seats required very little grinding, and the "head guy" said they were in good shape and I will have no problem with compression.
