I removed the clutch housing, which contains the TA. I removed the TA and the large rear bearing, and in front of the bearing is a very large seal (about 3" inside diameter). Noticed it was installed with the "spring" on the seal lip facing towards the front of the tractor (facing the TA clutch). Seems this is wrong because there is no oil in the TA clutch compartment, but of course there is in the TA compartment.
So, should the new seal have the lip spring facing towards the rear of the tractor and in the oil? It looks like the seal is made to be installed either way, because there is substantial metal on the spring side. The spring side has a circular "break" in the metal, and the metal on the other side is continuous. I'm used to driving seals against the continuous metal side -- therefore the confusion.
