A rough casting will allow the paint to stay on the metal better than smoothed surfaces will. A nick or chip will take off a nickle or quarter sized chip if on smooth surfaces. On a rough finish, the tips of the casting roughness are exposed to the wear, and "Lock" the paint. Spend money on chroming bolts or other decorative features. (I like good paint, and no wet look top coat, but to each their own. Jim
