That "axle tube" is not the same on an A & BN. The differential shaft housings are the same length on an A & BN (18"), but they are different castings. The BN differential shaft housing has the attachment points for cultivators cast into it, an A does not.
No A, B or BN had hydraulics available from the factory, that didn't happen until the Super A.
A's, B's, BN's & C's all came from the factory with the battery in front of the steering post, under the rear of the gas tank. You may be thinking of a Cub, which did have the battery under the seat.
