NO, it will never get hot enough to hurt anything. Is it "safe"? No, there is always a risk that something could malfunction. I use a timer for mine but the timers you buy are at the limits of their capacity and eventually burn out. I have never found anything completely satisfactory. I've bought some expensive timers that did not last any better than the cheap ones. And a timer does limit you to when you can use the tractor. If I wanted a tractor ready to go on moments notice I'd consider heated storage.
