I have 3414 with those low voltage plugs and it starts great, also have a MF35 23C diesel with similar setup that starts stinking hard
there is a recent post on Tool Talk and another under Ferguson, lots of good info, check the archives
you have to make adapters to fit the modern 12v (10mm 1.25) plugs into the larger holes in your cylinder head, those 12v plugs are very nice
easiest path is to fix the original setup, clean the connections on everything and make sure nothing is burned out, stock glow plugs are reasonable online and resistor (710348R2) is $44 on this site
