Thanks for that great information! I grounded the field terminal on the generator, and it started charging. I"m going to have to check the light switch now for proper ground, etc. While it was running, I had a voltmeter on it, and was also watching the amp gauge. It showed charging until I turned on the headlights. Then went to discharge. I moved the one brush closer to the other one and farther away too. Still can"t keep up. My clamp on ammeter isn"t here, so I can"t see how much it is actually putting out. My thinking is the new brushes haven"t become well acquainted with the armature yet, maybe when the contact is better, the output will be too?
