A friend of mine pulls with a 39 H in the [stock] class. While it is not truly a stock tractor,SH bore high compresion and a .050 milled head it is about as stock as the rest. He wins or places in the top 4 at most pulls. Balance is BIG. He uses nothing but wheel weights. Not the orignals but the half rounds off a newer tractor like a 706,856 etc. You can get your weight closer than with full rounds and rules state round weights only in the stock class. Tires are the next biggie. Don't go too big or you find you lost power as you geared up with a increase in hieght. Firestones ,Armstrong's and Titans with a tread bar angle of 23 degees or close seem to be about the best all around tires. Oh ! and you will find that you will indeed run out of power in low gear if you go up around 5500 pounds and over.
