Bill, do as another post said make sure there is plenty of Hytran in transmission. Dipstick is by left heel. Is does not hurt to overfill by 5 gal.
I have attached the 484 PTO parts from CaseIH.com, as you can see from parts picture, the 1000 RPM shaft is the driving shaft from the PTO clutch and the 540 shaft runs off the 1000 shaft. The PTO clutch can be accessed by removing access cover under right foot rest but I believe you have to drain Hytran from transmission.
So there are a couple bearings at rear of tractor under the PTO shield that you can check the one at 540 shaft and the other on 1000 shaft. If you have access to a mechanics stethoscope or use the old mechanics trick with an old broom stick held next the bearing and the other end being held to your ear and listen for bearing squeal.
BE VERY CAREFUL not to get tangled up with PTO shaft.
