Oil and glazed surfaces will do that. There should be material remaining above the rivets on the bands, if bonded, the bands should be more than 3/32 thick at any location. To remove oil contamination, use brake clean spray to remove external oil, then heat the bands with a propane torch (not oxy!!!) until the oil is baked out, Do not heat radically, just maybe a 3to 4" length moving the torch all the time. When the oil stops coming out, wipe down and rough the surface with 250 grit paper. The seals are removed from the outside, do not take out the carriers without removing the bull gears!! Jim
