There is no provision for adjusting the vertical end play of the upper bolster shaft. The weight of the tractor keeps it in place. If the noise is really a problem you may want to consider slowing down a bit for the rough spots.
The end play can be controlled by installing washers between the steering gear and the upper bolster. You must maintain a little end play because the gear has a taper fit on the upper bolster shaft which must get tight before all the end play is gone while tightening the retaining nut.
