My dad used to put up a lot hay with two baling tractors. One was a Fordson Major diesel with a live PTO and the other was a International 504 gas with live PTO and a T/A. One baler was a John Deere 336 & the other was a Massey 124. Unfortunately, I can't remember which tractor had which baler (I was a kid at the time). The Fordson was a very good baler tractor, in many ways better than the IH 504. The Fordson used very little fuel, and had a Hi/Lo range transmission, live PTO worked great. It did not have power steering (the 504 did). The Fordson was trouble free and ran well. The only reason dad sold it is we got out of haying and had no use for it. He kept the 504 only because it had a factory loader. To answer your question, a Famall M wouldn't suit a baler nearly as well as the Fordson. Our Fordson also had a 3 point hitch and a live hydraulic system.
