Okay: You may have the battery installed wrong,,,,the genny got polarized opposite from how your tractor is configured,,,,,,,,the ammeter may be wired backwards........
1) If a shop just rebuilt it THERES A CHANCE THE GENNY MAY BE POLARIZED AT NEGATIVE GROUND AND NOW YOU MAY BE RUNNING IT AT POS GROUND!!!!!!!!!!
2) HOW IS THE BATTERY CONNECTED NOW??? Pos or Neg grounded?????????????
3) FIRST get the battery connected as you want it, original 6 volt was Pos ground and if its all original the ammeter for 6 volt WILL BE WIRED FOR A POSITIVE GROUND ARRANGEMENT and it will register bass ackwards if youre now at Neg ground!!!
4) I cant tell from sitting here if your ammeter leads got swapped at some time accidentally or if youre now at Pos or Neg ground HOWEVER I CAN TELL YOU THIS:
a) If all is working correct??? but its ONLY the ammeter that isnt registering properly YOU CAN SIMPLY REVERSE AMMETER LEADS
b) If the ammeter is wired correct to match your polarity if you turn on lights or ignition when shes not running THE AMMETER SHOULD SWING TO - DISCHARGE (if not sawp its leads)
5) CAUTION if the genny is polarized opposite polarity from your battery YOU CAN DAMAGE THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR
THAT ALL BEING SAID HERES WHAT ID DO IF IT WERE ORIGINALLY POSITIVE GROUNDED
1) FIRST install battery at Pos ground 2) POLARIZE the genny 3) Test the ammeter to see if its wired to match your polarity (see above) 4) Start her up and see if its charging and if the ammeter works correct
