Square #1 Do you want it to be as it was from the factory? we need to know if it is distributor or mag, 6volt or 12. If you want it to be stock configuration it needs to be positive ground. Make sure the battery is connected so the positive post is connected to the chassis of the tractor, and the negative post is hooked to the starter switch. If you want it to be negative ground, put negative bat post to ground. Next (before anything else including starting it) jump between the Bat terminal on the VR to the Arm/Gen terminal for one second. This polarizes the gen. It will spark. Now start it and run it to 1/2 throttle or more. If the amp gauge moves right, all may be well. If it moves left, do the following: With the engine off, turn on the lights. If the amp meter moves to the right, carefully mark then remove the wires from it and put them on the opposite posts. now start it and see if it moves right at 1/2 throttle. If so check the charge rate. If the battery is charged the voltage should be 7 to 7.2 volts. If it needs some charging it could be closer to 6.6 to 7 volts, but that is OK. All of the above depends on the wiring being correct for the Cub with generator. Jim
