Namesake, yeah, I would tend to agree with your points, that they usually can be had at the same price or cheaper "locally". Make a special trip to the winter convention ONLY for wheel weights? Depends upon whether or not you live 15 mins away or 15 hours.
I can't make educated comments about the puller's other than I live very close to Burgh's equipment. Owner told me that as quick as the wheel weights come in , the local puller's buy him out. good, bad, or indifferent, just commenting on what goes on in my area.
