Glenn I think there was a misunderstanding. What I was trying to say was take it apart, clean up the crank, throw the old rod away and install a new rod. Been there and did that twice. Not on the same engine. I'm a slow learner. Was lucky both times. On the 5 hp Techumseh rod broke but no other harm. It was in snowblower with old oil working hard on mild day. On 16 hp Techumseh in 1816 B Case skid steer just ran out of oil. Like yours engine got too tight to run or start again but didn't quite seize. Both ran fine with a little polishing of crank and a new rod. That plus a gasket or so is far cheaper than a new engine if the rest of the machine is good.
