The pump may care which way it turns. I did some checking on this 7-8 weeks ago. I don't know how much difference there is between the MD and SMD, but what I understand is on the MD there is an idler gear that turns the pump in an opposite direction than the gas. Which turns the Mag in a reversed direction from the gas, but that the Mag can be changed to fire correcttly in either direction. If it is a distibutor, if IRC, the part #s on the distributor are the same for the gas and deisel, so I haven't understood that yet. I had some good info on the RPM site under Engines and Jim Winehouse (hope spelling is right)who posts here knows more about them than I do.Just saying, check it out.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
