With no batteries on the second and third tractor, I guess they must be pull started even though they are gas start diesels. Have to assume the tractors are run in 3rd or 4th. Must be tough on the first tractor's clutch.
It would seem like gas fueled tractors would be safer. A kill switch could abort any attempt for the operator-less tractors to overrun the leader. There must be stories of accidents.
Never seen a discussion on how the empty tractors were controlled. Hydraulic clutch, maybe? Probably no throttle control. Wonder if the farmer had any other tractors to pull such a rig if it got stuck. I suppose four tractors hooked together would do the job. Seems like it would have to be pulled forward. Can't always do that.
