48 H rebuild

I am planning to rebuild my H this winter. It pulls better than I expected now (12 disc offset) but burns oil. What can I expect from stepped head pistons? Does the extra power cause any problems in the drivetrain. Thanks for any thoughts and experience you might have to share. Most of it is pretty expensive!
