Heat is better than a hammer. It should get loose before it gets red. Warming it and then letting it cool may also free it up. So if you heat it up and it still won't move, let it cool and try it. A little red won't hurt cast iron unless it is restrained and cracks. I would not be afraid to heat that bearing area. The only bad experience I have had with prudent heating was getting a shaft free and oiled hot, then it froze again on cooling. Reheating with the oil in the bearing area cooked the oil, coked it really, and made it double tough to get out, but heat was still the answer. You could also try heating the shaft only to break the rust seal, then letting everything cool and trying to move it. That is what you do when you weld on a broken stud to free it.
