I vaguely recall replying to someone about Hiniker and Y-A-R cabs and telling them you could cook dinner in one on a hot day without AC. Was that you?
As uncomfortable as our 1206 with the Hiniker cab and no AC can be on a hot day (and it hasn't killed me yet), our early 1086 doesn't have the most wonderful cab on it as far as I'm concerned, either. It's a vast improvement over earlier cabs, though, and most people do love these cabs.
On a 1086, the doors open backwards. If you drive through a mud puddle and get out, you're almost assured of getting some of it on you or your clothes unless you're a string bean. I'm 6 ft. tall. It's impossible for me to stretch out in this cab without scuffing up the windows with my shoes. Earlier 86's had straight shifter levers that make it hard to get in the left side. It's also hard to line up to an implement without a mirror or some help because you can't really see the end of the drawbar while seated. The seat beats the heck out of me while going down a rough road at a reasonable speed. Also, don't have someone opening/closing doors while someone's fueling up, as the dust from the air filter will end up in the fuel tank.
Pros: cab is relatively quiet, with or without a muffler, AC is nice, and air filtration is good. Large fuel tank is nice to keep you going most of a day. 1086's are good, solid, honest tractors.
I'd take a good honest 06-56 series tractor any day over a 66-86 series with the same HP. It's a matter of personal choice, though. I like those dry-sleeve engines. A later 5488 might tempt me away from the 06-56's.

Today's Featured Article - Show Coverage: Fair Weather Tractor - by Dave M.. No, Fair Weather isn't some rare brand. It's the kind you can't leave out in the rain. Here's how it happened. I had been casually looking for a tractor for weeks. I saw a few 9N's, but they had even fewer amenities than the 8N my Grandpa bought new in '52 with a Dearborn loader. That was 10 years before I was born, so I grew up thinking that 8N was the world's best tractor. Grandpa had greenhouses, with over half an acre under glass, and that 8N did almost everything. It was the only
