There is a number on the back of the plate. Using that number and the manual you will be able to determine the intended seed. IH plates will say something like CORN MEDIUM FLAT, CORN LARGE FLAT or PEAS. Drill spacing will be set by switching out internal or external cogs depending on the model of the planter. You will need the manual to figure this out. If no manual you can determine the spacing by experiment rolling the loaded planter over a know distance and counting the seed. If you are going to use this planter to plant garden stuff it is going to plant it too thick anyway and I would suggest a corn plate in one hopper and a peanut or large bean plate in the other. Use the corn plate to plant sweet corn which is small grained. You will tend to plant it too thick but it is easer to thin than to plant by hand. Use the large bean plate to plant anything that has to be thick in the drill such as snap beans.
