I just wanted to share something that happened to me an may help someone else. I have a Cub Lo-boy with a coil ignition. The problem was it was weak as a kitten and could not get out of it's own way. I suspected the usual woes with and old tractor...rings, valves, etc. I used the crank to start the tractor with one or two twists it would crank right up. Valve adjustment was good. I read in this forum that if it started the timing must be close. I adjusted the governer which helped a little, but still had to slip the clutch quite a bit to start on the flat in second gear. SOOOOO I checked the timing. Supposed to be 16 degrees BTDC, it was 20 degrees after top dead center. I guess that is 36 degrees off! As you could imagine this made all the differance with the power problem. Maybe they won't start with a magnito as easily. Sorry about going on, just thought I might get some comments on this.
