Be sure the tip of the rocker is not cup shaped from wear. If it is, the feeler will not measure the movement, it will measure a bridge over the cup, giving a false reading. (this will be much closer than the bizarre reading you found. Just be sure the cam is not in a position to affect what you are doing, by beginning to open the valve. (I like .020" for cold setting). If the engine has been operated for 15 minutes within 10 minutes, it can be set as though it is hot at .017". Jim
