I have taken off quite a few of these that is the hard part, putting them on is easy. I have never tried the other method stated im sure that is a great way as well. This is how i install them... Make sure the shaft is very clean and the pulley itself as Teddy states. Make sure you pack the front main seal with a fair amount of grease to help protect it. After heat the pulley up in the oven or with a small torch do not have to go nuts. Grab the pulley with a pair of old welding gloves or the alive place on crank shaft and drive on with a block of wood. Works great , have used this method for years from C-60's. C-113, and C-123.
