Were you cleaning it just to clean it, or was it giving you problems to begin with?
Not sure about the cub carbs, but floats can stick by rubbing against the side of the bowl.
Sometimes a few sharp taps on the carb, with something that's not going to break it, is all that's needed. If that works, but then it happens again, you'd want to take a look at the floats.
It's also very possible you dislodged some junk either in the fuel line, or the carb itself. and now it's stuck in the valve.
To get the tractor started, close the gas line. Let the carb drip itself out. Give it a good 15 minutes. Then try starting again (with the gas line still closed). Once it fires up, open the gas line immediately, and it should run fine.
Sometimes just getting the gas flowing like that is enough to get it freed up. I wouldn't count on it working, but it's worth trying before pulling the carb again to clean it.

Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?").
