Take the pin out that holds the shift lever in. You and easily see the shifter rails and tell if more than one of them is in gear. In neutral they should all be lined up. You can use a big screwdriver to get them all lined up so the transmission is in neutral. Get yourself a "slopply shifter fix" off E bay. I used one and it worked great.
