I'm not inclined to get spun up over an internally leaking carb. It's no worse than having one with a stuck float or a gasket of the discharge tube leaking. If you were able to get the JBWeld to fix the leak, then I'd press on. If not, and you look to replace the top, be aware that the carbs design changed over the years and you can't just mix and match parts. You'll need the same exact top you have now.
