Sparks from the ignition switch or the starter switch? Sounds like a short circuit somewhere. I had sparks from the starter switch and very slow cranking, turned out to be the cable from the switch to the starter had cracked insulation and was shorting. Replaced it with a new cable and things got a lot better.
