Look closer, there is at least one more digit to that number. It may be worn down or covered with paint or crud.
501 is the first serial number for the 140.
J indicates that the tractor has a "Rockford" brand clutch. 99.9% of Farmalls had a Rockford brand clutch, and a Rockford brand clutch will fit 100% of IH models... Why they put the J on there is beyond me.
