Be sure that you are looking at the pulley moving on the crank, and not the entire crank moving in and out. The thrust bearings on the crank wear and allow this to happen. Put a nail down the hole to the end, then mark the nail at the crank socket. Move the pulley. If it moves with the pulley it is the crank moving. It should not move more than about .025" If it moves .100 it is probably time for a crank thrust bearing at least. All lower end bearings might need replaced. Jim
